Congratulations to Michelle @ A Little Bit of This & That, who will soon sport a brand new cupcake apron! Michelle, please send me your mailing address, and I’ll get your apron to you soon! Many thanks to all who participated in the first ever Red Velvet Life giveaway!

Not winning!

Now for more sombre news. I must be having an identity crisis, y’all — I’ve lost my taste for oats. I KNOW. Let’s hope this is just a temporary impasse and not something more sinister. Come to think of it, though . . . when one’s brekkies have consisted of whipped banana chocolate peanut butter oatmeal, carrot cake oatmeal, apple cinnamon oatmeal, and strawberry shortcake oatmeal . . . one might be ready for a change. Maybe. Possibly.

Enter, flatbread. Dear La Tortilla Factory Smart & Delicious 100% Whole Wheat Flatbread (No really, that’s what it’s called): I love you. Dear college dorm room-era cutlery: I love you too, even though Velvet Husband wants to get rid of you. Don’t worry, I’ll be there for you! Cue Friends theme song.

Peanut Butter Banana Breakfast Pizza

La Tortilla Factory Smart and Delicious 100% Whole Wheat Flatbread

1/2 banana, sliced

Crunchy Peanut Butter

Cocoa nibs, dark chocolate chips, or 85% Lindt Dark Chocolate (optional)

1/2 tsp Chia Seeds (optional)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place flatbread on parchment-paper lined cookie sheet. Layer flatbread with peanut butter, banana slices, and chia seeds. Optional: Try adding a few pieces of 85% Lindt Dark Chocolate before baking–it’s ridiculous how delicious it tastes! Bake for 8 minutes at 350 degrees. Remove from oven and sprinkle with cocoa nibs if you haven’t already doused it in chocolate before baking.

Oh, you thought I was finished. Indeed, the wonders of flatbread are not limited to breakfast pizzas and tired lunch wraps. You’d think La Tortilla Factory is paying our rent, but I assure you this is not the case. I just don’t want to make pizza dough. Methinks I will have officially reached adulthood when I’m kneading pizza dough with Phantom of the Opera music playing softly in the background. Till that day comes, let’s crank up the Ke$ha, shall we?

Easy Flatbread Veggie Pizza

La Tortilla Factory Smart and Delicious 100% Whole Wheat Flatbread

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

1/2 tomato, sliced

Fresh Spinach

8 Pitted Kalmata Olives, chopped

1/3 green pepper, diced

Salt & Pepper (optional)

Fresh parmesan cheese (or Vegan Cheese of your choice)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place flatbread on parchment-paper lined cookie sheet. Spread a thin layer of olive oil on flat bread. Layer flat bread with spinach, tomato, olives, green pepper, salt and pepper to taste, and cheese. Bake for 8 minutes at 350 degrees. Remove from oven and enjoy the easiest pizza you never made.

These single girl recipes have come in handy while Velvet Husband has been away. Goodness, I even brought out the ol’ dorm room utensils! He better come home soon or our bedroom will be pretty ‘n’ pink. ūüėČ

Cupcake Apron Giveaway!

Le Apron

Dear Readers: How do we feel about aprons? Aprons of the cutesy retro variety adorned in pink bows and cherry-topped cupcakes? I hope we’re okay with them. As a twenty-first century lady, I would be remiss to neglect mentioning that to some, aprons represent the confining of women to lives of domesticity and might as well be burned along with our Chantelles. See¬†FN1 Still others view the the apron as the symbol of a welcome return to traditional domestic values. I respect all views on the matter.

But this is my blog. And as for me and my Red Velvet apartment Household, I will prance around in pretty aprons that resemble dresses because I am happily guided by my own preferences and inclinations. In other words, I do what I want. And I want to prance cook and bake in my apron. Thus, I do so. Simple.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Have I thanked you yet?

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading my food journal The Red Velvet Life over the past month. This has been a place for me to express myself, learn from you, and have fun doing both. I started this little blog to help me appreciate meals, etc. as I try to heal my tummy, and I’m gaining so much more from the experience. I’m inspired by your strength, creativity, and commitment to living healthy, productive, and meaningful lives.

Will you join me in embracing that which we love? Because I picked out something special for you at the Fashion Island Anthropologie store in Orange County. Yes, Real Housewives Alexis and Peggy (love) mention Fashion Island in the last episode. I add this tid-bit purely to show you how fabulously exclusive you would be to sport an item¬†purchased from the den of Gretchen and Tamara’s famous feuds and Tamara and Eddie’s hot pursuits.

Enter, pretty dress-like apron as a stand-in for monogrammed thank you notes addressed to each of you. That would be nice, now wouldn’t it? Perhaps, but I hope you like this apron even more. This particular apron is special because along with other fun bridal accoutrements, I gifted the same one to Velvet BFF at the bridal shower Velvet Mommy and I hosted for her in in Texas. BFF loved. You will love. Trust.

I like aprons. How do I enter?

I thought you’d never ask. To enter the giveaway:

  • Follow me on twitter @redvelvetlife.
  • Tweet about the giveaway saying: “I just entered the @redvelvetlife cupcake apron giveaway! http://wp.me/p1tALE-dA”

Yes, this means you can have up to¬†three entries! Please enter a separate comment below telling me what you did for each entry. For example, make a separate comment telling us what your favorite cupcake flavor is, make a separate comment telling me that you follow me on Twitter, and make a separate comment telling me that you tweeted about the giveaway. If you already follow me on twitter, have no fear; just comment to let me know that you follow. Contest ends Thursday, May 12 at 6pm PST, at which time I’ll select a random winner. I’ll announce the winner on Friday.¬†Good luck, cupcakes!
